Climate
Climate and climate change are at the heart of our problems. It is becoming quite evident that climate change has been happening for longer than we (scientists and data) thought. Evidence is emerging that indicates the current warming phase started around 1700. Initial findings suggest we have already reached 2.5 degrees of warming from the start of record keeping about 1700.
The problem we have now is that “in my lifetime” of 63 years the worlds population has doubled. There is also a lot of latent heating still to be driven by CO2 and NH4 emissions. This means temperatures will continue to rise if we end emissions now, perhaps for another 50 to 100 years.
Climate and Catastrophe
We are in extremely serious trouble. We have turned billions of living trees into CO2 in the last 325 years, allowed soil and peat lands to degrade into atmospheric CO2 and dug up ancient trees (coal) to burn for
CO2 as well. Then we realised that oil and gas from ancient marine plants and animals could be burned as well. It is time to stop. I will not live long enough to see the horrors that almost certainly lie ahead for my grandchildren and great grandchildren. That is why my first book is called “To Leave Something Behind”.

I’m very much afraid we have already lost this fight. I am very sorry. I have left this for far too long. We have left this for far too long. We can reverse this disaster, but I’m no longer sure we can get back to the stable climate of 1950. Life in some form will go on. There will be billions less humans or none at all before too long, then the proper recovery will begin, new species will eventually appear, the world will evolve. A shame we may not be around to see it.
