Our Diet – Sustainable Farming
Diet, Farming and Sustainability: Our Call to Action
I am writing this as the UK dairy industry is in crisis (again). Getting farming and sustainability right across the globe is absolutely critical for our future. This is fast becoming an end-game.
Absolutely key is getting this article, these facts and this science in front of school children worldwide. Cows intensively farmed for milk and cheese in volume need to become part of history.
Cheese is a luxury food and a fast food. It’s a staple in sandwiches, burgers and pizzas, all unhealthy products. I have spent my entire career in dairy farming and this article has been twenty years in the making. We need to give these farmers just transition to new land management and food production systems and we need to massively fund education on diet and agriculture.
Meat in our Diet - Sustainability and Farming
Red or White? No not a choice of wine with dinner, but meat. White meat is largely poultry or fish and red is beef pork or lamb.
In sustainability terms we split red into farmed ruminant (beef or lamb) and pork. Venison could be considered an interesting case on its own.
Vegan, Vegetarian or Variety - Sustainability and Farming
Twenty percent of the world population are Vegetarian. That’s great news. They are mostly in India due to cultural and religious reasons. In fact 40% of the subcontinent population are vegetarian or vegan.
